What are Veneers?

Veneers are a popular cosmetic dental option designed to enhance the appearance of your teeth by covering the front surface with a thin layer of custom-made material. Veneers are used to improve the colour, shape, and alignment of teeth, offering a natural and lasting solution for smile imperfections such as stains, gaps, or minor misalignments.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers are made from a tooth-coloured resin that is carefully applied and sculpted directly onto your teeth. This type of veneer requires minimal alteration to your natural teeth and can often be completed in a single appointment. Composite veneers are an excellent choice if you are looking for a quick, cost-effective way to refresh your smile. They are versatile and can address issues like small gaps, chipped teeth, or discoloration. While composite veneers may not last as long as porcelain, they are easy to repair and maintain, making them a practical option for many patients.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers consist of thin, custom-crafted ceramic shells designed to fit precisely over the front of your teeth. These veneers are highly durable and resistant to stains, offering a bright, polished look that can last for many years. The process typically requires two visits: one to prepare your teeth and take impressions, and another to place the finished veneers. Porcelain veneers are ideal for patients seeking long-term improvements in tooth colour, shape, and alignment, especially when more dramatic enhancements are desired.

At Houston Dentists, we work closely with you to determine whether composite or porcelain veneers are the best fit for your smile goals, ensuring results that look natural and feel comfortable.

Benefits of Veneers

  • Very little preparation of the tooth is needed.
  • A minimal amount of the natural tooth is to be altered to fit the veneer.
  • Veneers can be matched to make even the darkest teeth appear to bright white.
  • Minor twists and overlaps, as well as small gaps, can be quickly corrected with the use of veneers.

VENEERS

What is the method?

Minimal preparation involves cleaning and shaping the surface tooth enamel, and an impression is then taken of the mouth. This impression is used by the dental technician to create a plaster cast on which the veneer can be modelled.

At the next appointment, about ten days later, the dentist will ‘try in’ the veneer to check the shape and fit. If the dentist and client are happy with the overall effect, the correct shade of cement will be selected and the veneer will be secured in place.
